We are beginning to understand just how intelligent and emotional the octopus really is, a truly sentient being. I was lucky enough to encounter a real octopus whilst snorkeling in Greece one year. It's position was given away by the midden of crustacean shells mounded on the sea floor below; once the octopus realized I was aware of it's presence it came undulating away from the rock that it was previously perfectly camouflaged on to. I was awe struck and that experience will stay with me forever. The original drawing was commissioned for the front of a special edition score published by Faber Music of 'The Tempest' an opera by the incredible composer Thomas Ades. This awe inspiring music evoked the memory of this encounter.
Edition of eleven archival inkjet prints from the original pen and ink drawing.
